Responsibilities/Duties .

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Works under the direction of the AUSAs assigned to the Monetary Penalties Unit. Work products are reviewed prior to submission to the assigned case AUSA; however, often develops these products with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines. In addition to functions performed by Paralegals, described below, performs moderately complex legal research; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviews case related materials and identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation; prepare draft legal documents, such as motions, briefs, correspondence, memoranda or law, etc.; assists the investigative agents to insure that asset identification and restraint are part of the criminal investigation; Assists attorneys with all phases of litigation including, organizing trial exhibits; organize “witness binders! ” for certain key witnesses; search for relevant documents stored on various databases and coordinate activities with federal and local law enforcement. A primary responsibility of this position is to prepare proposed restitution orders for the court’s consideration for all cases in the district where restitution is involved. Contact is mostly with agents, Assistant United States Attorneys and crime victims. The contractor works in an office setting; some walking, standing, bending and carrying of small office items is requires. There may be a need for the candidate to work overtime depending on work and case load .

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires paralegal certificate .
  • At least two years of litigation paralegal experience required; trial experience very helpful. At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
  • Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and l! egal research resources.
  • Requires excellent written and oral c! ommunication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Applicant must have the ability to use MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Access or other data bases , imaging and telecommunications, and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
  • Able to perform legal research in Lexis/ Nexis and /or West Law. Role also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of e-discovery procedures and resources.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.
  • Communication skills are extremely important. Works and interacts professionally and effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to meet established deadlines and work as a team player in a professional office. Skill in meeting and dealing with people in a courteous and tactful manner.
