Post by Jobing - Job Title: Fire Prevention Specialist Closing Date/Time: Fri. 02/14/14 5:00 PM Central Time Salary: $28.34 â€" $35.24 Hourly Job Type: Full Time Location: Fire Station, 310 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas The purpose of this position is to preserve the lives and property of the community. This is accomplished by performing inspections, reviewing construction plans for code compliance, ensuring new and current construction is in compliance with codes and ordinances, determining origins of fires, and attending training sessions. Other duties may include educating the commun! ity on fire safety and first aid procedures, completing specia! l emergency management projects, and interfacing with other City employees and citizens.

This position does not provide direction to other employees. Essential Functions: Preserves the lives and property of the community by conducting fire inspections, scheduling inspections of commercial construction sites and structures, completing hydrostatic testing, inspecting sprinkler and fire alarm systems, ensuring underground storage tanks are free from flammable or combustible liquids, determining if construction is in compliance with fire codes and ordinances, reporting findings and determinations, interacting with clients and the public on fire safety standards and maintaining files for each inspection. Determines the origin of fires for commercial and residential structures by entering fire scenes after extinguishment activities, investigating fire scenes, observing damage, working with the IC to direct firefighters during investigations, and establishing the cause fo! r fires. If certified as an arson investigator and assigned to perform as one, the incumbent will collect evidence of the cause, process evidence, create case files of fire incidents, file incident findings with the District Attorney's Office, conduct interviews with persons involved, arrest individuals when necessary and testify in court as needed.

Maintains assigned certifications by participating in continuing education and completing the appropriate paperwork for training received. Educates the community about fire safety by responding to citizen inquiries and questions on fire safety, presenting fire safety tips to local groups, schools and businesses, demonstrating appropriate safety actions during fires or emergencies, illustrating proper fire extinguisher use and first aid procedures, assisting with public tours of the fire station and overseeing the Fire Safety Trailer when necessary. Reviews construction plans and blue prints for code compliance. Interpre! ts codes for contractors and citizens.

Develops and maintains ! aspects of the Emergency Management Plan if assigned. Job Requirements: Formal Education / KnowledgeWork requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with an Associate's degree. Experience Over two years of relevant experience. Certification and Other Requirements Valid Texas Drivers License, Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Fire Inspector and (TCFP) Fire Investigator Certification.

Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Peace Officer Certification and TCFP Arson Investigator Certification preferred. A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Fire Protection Engineering/Technology from an accredited college or university plus TCFP Fire Inspector and two years of relevant experience may be substituted for the TCFP Fire Investigator and TCLEOSE certifications. Supplemental Information: ReadingAdvanced â€" Ability to read literature, books, reviews, scientific or technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, a! nd/or legal documents. Ordinarily, such education is obtained at the college level or above.

However, it may be obtained from experience and selfâ€"study. Math Intermediate â€" Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and selfâ€"study.

Writing Intermediate â€" Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. The employee normally performs the duty assignment within broad parameters defined by general organizational requirements and accepted practices.
