Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Director of Business Systems preferably at the Global Operations Center in Wheeling, WV, however other office locations may be considered.

In support of the Finance Team, Chief Practice Officers, Executive Staff, management and partners around the world, anticipate financial system needs by providing key financial information on a real-time and historical basis, constantly seeking improvements in data, ease of use and dashboard views. The position is responsible f! or managing a 10 Business Systems Support Group team with memb! ers located in Wheeling, San Francisco and across the US working remotely.

The Director leads the team in the programming and managing of internal KPI and ad-hoc reporting in-house and maintains systems for client matter profitability (Redwood), business intelligence (SAP/BPC), time & billing/accounting (Aderant), and partner compensation using SQL, ASP, C#, VBA, SSRS, Cognos and SSAS cubes, as well as other tools. The Director and team must understand, manipulate, and link data within and among these systems and others in order to provide meaningfully support business goals, performance objectives, strategy, and confidentiality.

The Director is also responsible for relationships with software vendors, contract negotiations, upgrades and manages a multi-million dollar budget.

The incumbent is responsible for modeling and acting in accordance with Orrick's client service standards and core values.

Essential Position Responsibilities:

  • Interface with executive staff, management, and partners to develop and implement systems, methods, and procedures to meet their needs in a multi-jurisdictional and multi-cultural environment and in light of Firm goals and culture.
  • Determine cooperatively with business and operations leaders the development and implementation of systems, methods and procedures to meet their needs.
  • Direct or collaborate in the development, deployment, installation, or distribution of processes or information, including time and billing, accounting, business intelligence, profitability, and KPI reporting.
  • Ensure global functionality, reliability, and security of key systems. Determine efficient, effective, and culturally practical user support mechanisms for these systems
  • Act as end user advocate.
  • Consistently look for ways to serve our clients and run internal processes better, cheaper, faster
  • Monitor the market for best pr! actices, innovation, and use of technology.
  • Network within and! outside the Firm to keep abreast of technology developments and business-enabling IT and to enhance own technical and management skills
  • Establish appropriate controls over information entry, modification, and inquiry in financial systems
  • Ensure that appropriate information is available to attorneys and staff in a useful format and on a timely basis
  • Identify opportunities to reduce the cost of business with technology and provide enhanced service to attorneys and staff.
  • Promote open dialogue with business leaders, department managers, and users.
  • Continually seek to provide improved service, information, knowledge, and tools for attorneys and staff.
  • Manage Business Systems Support Group to provide a high level of service and work product, including staff development and cross-training
Position qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s (or Master’s) degree from accredited college or university required
  • At least eight years related and transferable experience in professional services management, technology, finance, project management, operations.
  • Law firm background preferred.
  • Demonstrated analytical and operational skills, ability to develop and cultivate strong professional working relationships with diverse colleague group, ability to engender motivation and confidence in all members of the Firm
  • Relational database and OLAP cube experience
  • Time and billing, accounting, profitability, business intelligence
  • Strong organizational skills coupled with attention to detail and a strong record of follow-up
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills coupled with a demonstrated ability to present complex ideas to attorneys and staff.
  • Experience with or exposure several of the following preferred: HTML, ASP, C#, VB scripting; Visual Basic; Structured Query Language; stored procedures, SSRS, Cognos and SSA! S OLAP cubes. MS Access; BPC; Aderant Expert / CMSOpen; PeopleSoft.
  • Experience working with remote workers and experience working with individuals with a diverse background
  • Proven experience being able to communicate complex, technical issues in an understandable manner to all levels of personnel
