Position Summary

Trout Unlimited is working with the Monongahela National Forest to fill a full time, benefitted, science position to serve as a Program Coordinator! , focused on implementing cooperative U.S. Forest Service/TU p! rojects in West Virginia, including stream and watershed survey and assessment work and activities that support trout and aquatic resource conservation. The position will involve field and office work, program coordination, fish and aquatics survey work, and supervision of a small crew of seasonal workers. Work will typically consist of 40 hour work weeks (4 to 5 days/week) that require both reporting to and working out of the office, driving to and from survey areas, hiking to and from remote study sites, carrying field gear of moderate weight (up to 40 pounds or more), and working in inclement weather. The position is based in West Virginia, either at the Forest Supervisor office in Elkins, a district office, or at TU's Thomas, WV offices. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Duties and Responsibilities

Supervise Summer Watershed Survey Crews throughout the Monongahela National Forest.

Supervise the Hemlock Conservation data collection and tr! eatment program.

Provide support for cooperative agreements between TU and the U.S. Forest Service.

Develop work plans and identify resource needs for U.S. Forest Service Cooperative agreements for projects including Large Wood Habitat Structures, Aquatic Passage Programs, and Forest Hydrologic Restoration.

Conduct technical tasks including: data collection and entry, analysis of surveyed areas and treatment locations, report writing, and communicating results to professional and grassroots entities.

Input accounting and timekeeping information into TU's accounting programs.

Develop budgets and invoices using TU's accounting reports.

Qualifications

Graduate degree in a related field or an undergraduate degree accompanied by related professional experience;

Experience in aquatic survey techniques;

Ability to plan, implement, and supervise field operations and the personnel who install bes! t management practices;

Experience with grant and project mana! gement, including accounting and performance reporting;

Desire to work in both field and office environments;

Possess strong communication, organizational and leadership skills;

Ability to work with diverse interests;

Working knowledge of fisheries principles and practices with an emphasis on native fishes;

Ability to work independently and take initiative;

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.);

Experience with CAD, ESRI GIS, Trimble GPS is an advantage;

A valid driver's license;

And a strong passion for native fishes and the watersheds upon which they rely.
