JOB TITLE: Property Claims Specialist

REPORTS TO: Claims Manager

JOB SUMMARY: Investigates, analyzes, negotiates and settles complex claims with high exposure typically requiring outside investigation while delivering quality customer service.
A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Listed in order of importance, frequency or sequence, 1=most important/frequent, etc.).
Determines whether or not proper coverage exists for the type of complex claim assigned. Investigates thoroughly to obtain relevant facts concerning all aspects of the claim, such as liability, legal climate, potential exposure, and damages, and makes informed decisions on claim resolution.
Determines the value of the physical damage of property, automobiles, or injuries through inspections and use of appropriate tools. Obtains all necessary documentation to support claim evaluation. Monitors ongoing case development for appropriateness. Completes appropriate reports so that the current status of the compl! ex claim is clearly documented at all times.
In accor! dance with Westfieldâs reserving philosophy, establishes and reviews proper reserves for each claim based upon thorough investigation, evaluation, and experience.
Within decision making authority, negotiates timely and appropriate settlements with insureds, claimants, vendors, attorneys, and other insurance companies. Refers claims exceeding authority to Claims Manager, Unit Manager, or Regional Claims Analyst with recommendations.
Makes personal contact when appropriate and maintains effective and ongoing communications with insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, other insurance companies, representatives, vendors, and company personnel.
Directs and manages the outcome of litigated claims.
Collaborates with internal/external business partners, and large account customers, seeking and/or providing assistance or input when needed.
Will assist, coach/mentor and direct staff at Claim Manager and/or Unit Manager direction.
May travel to assist in complex claims, or may substitute for Claims Manager or Unit Managerâs duties.
Performs other duties as assigned.
B. JOB SPECIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION/EDUCATION:Required :
Ability to handle property, casualty, and/or workersâ compensation claims up to service office authority.
Five years equivalent claims adjusting/industry related experience.
Requires a valid driverâs license and an acceptable driving record that conforms to company standards.
Minimum of overall âmeets expectationsâ on the last two performance evaluations.
Travel.
Preferred:
Bachelorâs Degree.
A minimum of CPCU or law degree, or completion of both the AIC and SCLA designations.
C. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to utilize a computer.
Ability to communicate using a telephone.
Ability to operate an automobile.
Abili! ty to physically inspect damaged property and/or loss locations.
