Registered Nurse/Sexual Assault Response Team Coordinator & Educator

Location: Kotzebue Alaska

Description: Maniilaq Association is at present looking to employ Registered Nurse/Sexual Assault Response Team Coordinator & Educator right now, this career will be placed in Alaska. Responsible for the development, coordination, and over site of the Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) Staff, Program Education, and Orientation Process. Will work in conjunction with team members from law enforcement and advocacy agencies. Performs medical-forensic exam utilizing program protocols. Procedures and treatment will be developed using department standards and protocols approved the Medical Director. Identifies the staffing n! eeds and develop nurse recruitment to provide the SART examina! tions.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Initiates and utilizes the nursing process to meet the holistic needs of the patient and family while adhering to the professional standards set forth by American Nurses’ Association.
2. Observes the patient's clinical condition: recognizes, identifies, and interprets serious and/or emergent situations while initiating appropriate nursing interventions.
3. Utilize the State of Alaska’s Forensic Evidence Collection Kit to collect, process, and maintain the chain of custody for forensic samples.
4. Safeguards the patient’s right to privacy by judiciously protecting information of a confidential manner.
5. Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual nursing judgments and actions.
6. When qualified, volunteers to participate in emergency medevac procedures as needed.
7. Initiates program development, departmental and organizational performance improvement activiti! es.
8. Utilizes incident and medication error reporting protocols per MHC policies.
9. Document the medical-forensic exam process and findings. Documentation may be completed through the use of written, diagrammatic, and/or photographic means.
10. Communicate medical-forensic exam findings with the patient and provide patient education based on the patient history, medical-forensic exam findings, diagnosis and treatment as needed. Develops the discharge plan of care with the patient and team members to ensure the patient’s medical and legal needs are met.
11. Provide patient referrals as needed for continuation of health care.
12. Communicate with team members the observations and findings related to the medical-forensic exam.
13. Provide testimony, fact or expert, in court regarding patient care and medical-forensic exam findings.
14. Participate in ongoing case review, peer review and quality assurance.
15. Present educational/information! al materials to professional/public audiences as needed.
16. Observ! e all legal requirements related to mandatory reporting.
17. Schedule flexes to meet departmental, regulatory, medical center, and emergency needs.
18. Uses independent judgment to assign work to team members and to responsibly direct team members. Creates supporting systems that enable and empower team members to jointly plan and deliver care. Exemplifies professional role boundaries while collaborating and participating with law enforcement, advocacy agencies and the Department of Law, primary team members and other departments.
19. Performs other related duties as required.

Job Qualifications:
A degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university. Current Alaska licensure as a Registered Nurse. BLS. SANE-A and SANE-P certification preferred. Must have detailed knowledge of roles and responsibilities of law enforcement, OCS, District Attorney, Attorney General, Office of Public Advocacy, and Maniilaq Family Crisis Center. Must unders! tand processes involved in criminal prosecution. Must have excellent communication and conflict resolution skills. Passionate about nursing profession including forensic nursing. Able to prioritize, delegate assignments, promote teamwork, and coach staff to meet/exceed safety and quality performance goals. Mentors professional nursing practice and management competencies. Visible, accessible, and communicates regularly with staff and Team members on all shifts. Promotes collegiality. Recognizes and illuminates individual and team accomplishments. Must have demonstrated ability to bring diverse groups together to work collaboratively. Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and spend long periods of time standing or walking. May be exposed to communicable diseases and hazardous materials. Must be able to pass the annual core competencies assigned to the unit.
