JOB PURPOSE
Maintain a safe skiing enviro! nment by completing daily assignments, scheduling and supervising patrollers. Oversees the investigation process, completing all investigations in a timely, responsible manner.

By

Overseeing all incident investigations

Ability to communicate to all levels of authority in a professional manner regarding any incidents requiring investigation

Supervising the incident investigation team

Including an understanding of the ski area’s operations, geography and personnel

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form

Understanding of all NSAA guidelines and reporting documentation

Responsible for communication with Risk Management, Attorneys, Insurance Carrier

Completing assignments, working with staff and other departments in operating

procedures to insure a safe skiing/riding/biking environment.

Maintains quality of care to those with serious and/or life threatening injuries

By

Providing basic lifesaving first aid (ABC’s, CPR, control of bleeding, etc)

Notifying proper medical personnel for advanced life support and rapid transport

Enforces skier r! esponsibility act and helps skiers

By

Monitoring gues! ts in specified areas to make sure that they are following the S.O.S codes

Informing guests of the S.O.S. code and the Skiers Responsibility Act

Distribution and maintaining of the SOS Codes and the Responsibility Code literature, through direct communication with guests

Prepares trails before opening to provide safe skiing conditions.

By

Marking slope hazards with signs, ropes and bamboo poles. Checking to see that all hydrants lift towers and other manmade objects are marked with bamboo poles as well as padding, bales and or pads and proper signage is in place.

Including packing snow with skis, or boards and shoveling to make passage possible

Provides continual operation check on aerial transportion system

By

Observing and reporting that all ramp conditions, stop gates, signs, are in satisfactory condition, and in proper place

Reports any safety hazards, damage or excessive wear and ! tear on all aerial lifts and ground tows

Involving having a general knowledge of the function of these machines obtained through training and experience

Provide efficient and complete closing of all trails.

By

Completing a daily sweep skiing, riding, or on a snowmobile at the end of the day, visually scanning the sides and woods for lost or injured guests

In the event of inclement weather, guests will be transported via company vehicle

Ensuring documentation.

By

Maintaining patrol dispatch when assigned

Receiving calls (via telephone and/or radio) and dispatching patrollers, equipment and adequate transportation to accident sites

Recording all incidents, both on paper, and in our computer database

Arranging transportation for injured guests

By

Contacting families, friends, and/or medical facilities and assisting

Including possibly driving the party t! o vehicles, condos or houses

Incumbent maintains a professiona! l standard of skiing and/or riding.

By

Skiing or riding at or above the National Ski Patrol System’s basic level

Patroller should also be skiing or riding at or above the NSPS basic toboggan handling level, and maintain current OEC certification

Provide a guest service function at lift terminals

By

Assists lift attendants and mountain hosts by checking tickets, regulating riders to use the lift to its maximum efficiency

Assisting with guest service problems

Perform emergency evacuation of ski lifts

By

Using NSPS lift evacuation techniques and following the resorts lift evacuation plan

Contributes To Team Effort
By

Accomplishing related results as needed and performing and Leading Incident Investigations as requested by Management.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge! , skill, and/or ability required.

Senior Patroller Status

This level of patroller indicates that the individual has taken a series of core and elective education programs in which he or she demonstrated expanded patrolling knowledge and skills, leadership and problem management capabilities.

Prerequisites:
NSP membership status

Patrol director’s recommendation

Senior candidate application

To pass one must pass four components after attending clinics throughout our region, as well as additional paperwork. The candidate is given two to three years to pass all of the components.

1- Written test with a minimum score of 80%

2- Ski test on the most difficult terrain in the region (Shay’s Revenge) under most difficult conditions (un-groomed bumps)

3- Toboggan handling on the most difficult terrain under difficult conditions (as above)

4- Senior Outdoor Emergency Care Scenarios ! â€" incidents involving more than one injury at a time and usually chal! lenging bystanders, along with advanced scene management.

Incident Investigation Lead

The patrollers taking on this assignment must meet with our attorneys periodically to keep abreast of current trends in lawsuits. They take on the additional responsibility of performing our incident investigations, compiling parameters that define when an incident investigation is needed and meeting with our Risk Manager to review Incident Investigations.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

The knowledge, skill and ability an incumbent must have in order to accomplish the job results and to perform the fob duties.

Education: High school diploma or equivilant

Prior Experience

Specific Experience: Must have worked as a ski patroller

Length of Experience: 3 years Ski Patrol experience

Specific Certifications, Licenses Required:
OEC, or EMT or higher, current CPR card, minimum of 3 years ski patrol! ling

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will carry out the supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable guidelines. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding employees with G.U.I.D.E.S nominations; Contacting Patrol Manager with employee disciplinary concerns; addressing complaints and resolving problems;

GENERAL LANGUAGE & REASONING ABILITY

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. The incumbent is required to be mentally alert while performing this job.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Any Intrawest employee who operates a company vehicle including cars, trucks, snowcats, snowmobiles, or heavy equipment is required to comply with the Intrawest Driver’s Standards Policy. The incumbent primarily performs his/her job in an outside environment and is frequently exposed to severe weather conditions. The incumbent is also frequently exposed to Blood-born pathongens, Airborn particles, High places, Moving parts of machinery, Muscular strain, Noise, and Temperature changes.Must operate UTV’s and snowmobile reqularly. The incumbent will have to wear a helmet while patrolling which will be provided by snowshoe mountain.
