Expected pay range: $115,000 - $125,000


The Director of Payroll reviews the payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions. The Director of Payroll also ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.


Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Supervise, develop, and mentor a team of payroll professionals
  • Oversee daily operations and perform administrative functions for the payroll department
  • Responsible for the development, training and mentorship of payroll team ensuring optimal performance
  • Leverage technology to gain efficiencies and accuracy
  • Remain updated on current and changing payroll related laws across multiple states
  • Update payroll policy and procedure documents
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and coordination with Company associates, departments, and management
  • Establish and maintain effective business relations with vendors, outside auditors and regulators, and professional trade groups
  • Ensure compliance and resolve all issues related to state and local payroll laws and regulations including wage and hour laws, tax, and other filings
  • Track wage requirements related to contracts in all states
  • Review annual W-2 preparation and quarterly and annual payroll tax return filings. Work with external payroll company as needed
  • Assist with Workers Comp audits and related issues
  • Create and maintain a positive team environment, conduct routine team meetings, provide recognition, and celebrate successes
  • Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned

Knowledge and Skills


  • Proficient with Payroll software
  • Knowledge of multi-state payroll practices and laws required
  • Knowledge of payroll tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma, required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred
  • 8-10 years of experience processing high volume payroll required, including work with California wage and hour regulations.
  • 3 years of supervisor/management experience required.
  • 2+ years of high-volume staffing industry experience preferred.
  • Acquisition integration experience a plus
  • Systems integrations experience a plus
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment, facility, and field environments. We operate 24/7/365, inside and outside, in all weather conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, smart phones, tablets, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other presentation materials. There is an expectation of clear communication in English both written and orally.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Ability to twist, turn, bend, lift, kneel, climb and stand. Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. may occur. Employee will be required to travel in automobile and/or aircraft.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full Time – 40 hours per week. This position is based Remotely. The ability to work flexible hours including nights, holidays, and weekends is required based on contract needs.


Travel

Occasional travel may be required.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be able to travel within the Continental United States (CONUS)
  • Must pass a drug test, motor vehicle record check, and a background check upon accepting a conditional offer of employment.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license. Have/maintain a clean driving record.
