Department of Revenue / Tax Department / Tax Account Administration Division, Kanawha County Plan, assign, supervise and review the work of permanent employees administering tax law relating to sales, use, local sales and use and other taxes. Employees are responsible for auditing accounts for legality, completeness and mathematical accuracy; requesting any additional required information from taxpayers; composing letters explaining the disposition of the accounts; notifying taxpayers of deficiencies or overpayment and preparing legal documents. Write letters and memoranda regarding issues and procedures pertinent to the operation of the unit. Meet with Administration and other unit managers to coordinate new or revised procedures and/or tax forms. Meet with Administration and staff of Information Technology Division to assist in the development of new or revision of existing computer processing programs. Assist in the annual testing of integrated tax processing system. Contact tax practitioners, attorneys and taxpayers regarding account types administered. Evaluate and review employees work for accuracy and compliance with the tax laws and regulations. Evaluate employees including recommendations for hiring, disciplinary action, certification and/or merit increases. Performs related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Special requirements as described below may apply.

Substitution: Experience as described below may substitute for the required training on a year-for-year basis.

Experience: Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in tax related auditing or accounting work.
Substitution: Master's degree in accounting, auditing, business administration, economics, finance, financial management, or a closely related field may substitute for up to two (2) years of experience.

Special Requirement: Six (6) semester hours of accounting is required for the supervision of taxpayer service representatives, tax audit clerks (trainees, clerks or seniors) and revenue agents and must be completed within one (1) year of appointment or promotion.
